Entrepreneur Island

July 20, 2009

As the sun begins to set, the work day does not end. Instead, work continues late into the night with sleep the last thing on one’s mind. This is the life I have chosen. — An Entrepreneur

As an entrepreneur, if you want to ‘survive’ and make it off the ‘island’, then you must succeed. Failure is not an option, yet it is the most common result. In what can be called odd, so many people choose to play this game of ‘entrepreneurship’ even though they are fully aware that odds are against them.

The biggest question that one may ask is “Why play?” For some it is the thrill of watching their dreams take flight while for others it just comes natural. Just how some are born natural athletes, some are just natural entrepreneurs. For those that choose to follow their dreams and ideas, they find themselves stranded on an island with only one way off: success. This is as real as it gets. No one tells you how to play the game, nor how to succeed. You have to trust your instinct and most of all your dream. Continue Reading…

How Services Marketing Can Save Your Business

July 8, 2009

Do you know your customer? That is the question that every business owner should ask themselves. If your response is something along the lines of “sort of” or “not really,” then now is the time to change that. With companies struggling to find new ways to attract customers, most businesses are missing an essential aspect to it all. Without fully understanding one’s customer, developing new products and marketing campaigns are futile. One cannot expect to be successful without being able to understand their target market.

While companies invest millions into their advertising and marketing campaigns, the biggest area that fails to receive appropriate attention is services marketing. Services marketing examines the relationship between the company and its customer as well as the quality and value that the customer experiences. While many may believe that this is just a small part of a larger picture, evidence shows that services marketing is playing a much larger role in the success and failure of companies. Marriage: Logic Or Emotion?

June 28, 2009

Here is the plan: You graduate from college, you get a good job, you find a nice girl, you get married, have kids, and then you retire and travel the world. Sounds simple doesn’t it? Unfortunately it isn’t. Instead, trying to plan out your life is like trying to predict the weather without knowing where you are nor what time of the year. While many may feel discouraged and disappointed when life doesn’t go according to their ‘master plan,’ perhaps that is what make life so beautiful.

You wake up not knowing if it’ll be sunny or cloudy, but when you do get a sunny day, it makes your day more enjoyable. If every day was sunny and predictable, what would make it special? Marriage is much the same. Finding love as opposed to infatuation makes a relationship meaningful and special. For some of us, love happens once in a lifetime while infatuation happens every day.

Logic Versus Emotion

So why do you want to get married? That is the big question that many people ask those that say they want to get married. Is it for love? Is it for financial stability? What is it? While you may get different responses, the reason for getting married can be broken down into two distinct categories: Logic and Emotion. Continue Reading…

The College Hangover

June 17, 2009

As the alarm buzzes so begins the debate. The debate whether or not getting up and getting ready for class is really worth it. As you weigh your options you debate over the following: (a) You can skip class and get the notes from someone else or (b) go because your class grade depends on it. While the responsible choice is to go to class, not everyone is responsible.

For many recent college graduates, it appears that nothing has changed. You still want to sleep in and you don’t want to get up yet. The big difference is that if you decide to sleep in and ‘skip’ class you can’t just make up what you missed by getting the notes from a fellow classmate. Instead you are missing out on your future. While it is easy for many of us to just hit the snooze button, and sleep for what seems like an amazing 5 minutes, too often do recent college graduates carry over this mentality into life after college.

It what can be described as a sort of college hangover, what many fail to realize is that time waits for no one, and the sooner you can ‘sober’ up, the better. Reminiscing about all the good times you had during college is great, but it is even more important to look toward the future. Continue Reading…
